Center on the Biology of Aging

Jiwon Seo is a student in the lab of Professor John Sedivy. His project investigates the role of LINE-1 retrotransposable elements in muscle aging. He is examining young and old skeletal muscle tissues from mice and humans for changes in muscle physiology and the development of senescence phenotypes, using immunofluorescence and cytochemical assays. Using a RNA FISH technology called Basescope, Jiwon has localized p16 and p21 mRNA expressing cells. Through specially designed Basescope probes he is now investigating differential expression LINE-1 elements. Jiwon matriculated in the MCB Program in September 2016 and is currently his sixth year in the MCB Program. He was supported by this T32 from 09/01/18 to 08/31/20).
